Interview Summary
Ellen Hunt was a “military brat” having lived in Egypt and Lebanon. Learning languages was also common for the family. Hunt had the opportunity to learn Arabic, French, and Spanish as a child. Hunt received a degree from University of California, Santa Cruz in politics and international affairs. She was invited to service in Morocco in education. After a Peace Corps orientation in Philadelphia, she trained in Rabat, Morocco. Hunt was assigned to a high school in Nador, a Berber area. She lived in an apartment near work with another volunteer and engaged with the family of the landlord and others with fond memories. Hunt taught three classes using the “Realia” method, or Total Physical Response (TPR). She also taught a group of engineers outside of the school and created a book of exercises and games to learn English.
