Interview Summary

Ralph Derickson enrolled at the University of Kentucky in the fall of 1964 after working for 2 years for the Clay City Times newspaper. He earned his degree in Journalism in 1969 while working as a reporter for the Lexington Herald. In 1971, Ralph was hired as the public relations associate for the Council of State Governments and worked there until 1980, whereupon he was employed by the University of Kentucky in Public Relations until his retirement in 2005. In this interview he discusses his experiences attempting to start a weekly community newspaper and then working for the Council of State Governments from 1971 to 1980.
