Interview Summary

Terry Keys describes his childhood and what it was like growing up in Webster, a small town in Breckinridge County, Kentucky. He describes his family's history of tobacco farming. He describes the path that led him to attend the University of Kentucky and major in journalism and English. He discusses his personal religious and volunteer activities. He discusses his role as a Cancer Education Liaison at the Markey Cancer Center at the University of Kentucky, and how he became the facilitator of the Patient Advisory Group. He discusses the high prevalence of cancer in Kentucky, the health disparities that exist in Appalachia, barriers to healthcare in Kentucky, and how we can diminish the popularity of smoking and tobacco use.
