Interview Summary

Sidney Hisel originally from Fayette County, Kentucky and later a resident of Georgetown, Kentucky, talks about his WWII experiences as a seaman aboard an LST (Tank Landing Ship) during WWII, 1944-1946. Hisel discusses his family, his experiences during the Great Depression, including his family's work for the WPA, why he volunteered to serve in World War II at age seventeen, and why he specifically chose to join the Navy. He also discusses his difficulty in re-adapting to civilian life, his career in the printing trade, and his involvement with the restoration of the LST 325.
