Interview Summary

Jacob, Joshua, and David Wirtschafter discuss their mother, Carol Wirtschafter, the first director of Camp Shalom when it was founded in 1968. They discuss how the social revolution occurring during the 1960s affected the camp, from the turbulence occurring at universities, to the conflict in Israel, to anti-war protests and feminism. They discuss the culture of the camp, which leaned away from competitiveness and toward peace and egalitarianism.
