Interview Summary
Alice Alexander grew up in Lexington where she spent much of her time at her grandmother's house on Illinois Street. She describes the area when she was a child, including her grandparents' house and garden as well as the sense of "neighborhood" in the area. She talks about her relationship with her siblings and with her parents. She tells stories about her father raising chickens, family gatherings, and ghost stories she both heard and experienced herself.She talks about how the neighborhood has changed over the years, becoming much more dangerous. She tells the story of a bullet accidently being shot into her home, which narrowly missed her son and her sister. She talks about her son's experience being bused to a school across town.
