Interview Summary
Mildred Strider talks about her time on the board of the Colored Orphan Industrial Home in Lexington, Kentucky (which later became the Robert H. Williams Children's Home and Cultural Center). She remembers a colored day nursery that used to exist in Lexington as well, in addition to the Colored Orphan Industrial Home. She talks about the founders of the home, the name changes the Home has gone through, and explains the three-part board system that runs the Home. Specifically, she recalls successfully adding more women to the portion of the board that controlled the money during her tenure as Vice Chairman.Interview Accession
