The former UK president discussed his close association with Governor Paul Patton and his consultations with the governor preceding HB1; his testimony about the effects the reform efforts might have on the business community and the need for putting money into research; the relationship between politics and higher education; the politicization of UK?s Board of Trustees; his feelings about the unfunded Top 20 mandate; the separation of Lexington Community College from UK; his working and personal relationship with Dr. Michael McCall and KCTCS; his service on the newly reconstituted Council on Postsecondary Education; CPE?s role in limiting politics in higher education and fostering cooperation between universities; and his early, hectic years as UK?s president.
