Interview with Adam Greenberg, September 4, 2020
Project: Peace Corps: COVID-19 Evacuated Peace Corps Volunteers Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Adam Greenberg was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Zambia from 2018-2020 as a Rural Aquaculture Promotion Extension Agent. The Zambian government asked Peace Corps to assist with aquaculture, as protein deficiency is an issue. Adam has a history of community service, having also served two terms with AmeriCorps, as well as teaching and traveling for years abroad before joining Peace Corps with his girlfriend. He describes training and their work with fish farmers, as well as what life was like in rural Zambia with no electrical grid nor running water. He and his partner were planning to extend their service when COVID-19 forced their evacuation; they hope to return when the program restarts. Just before evacuation, they helped the village get needed supplies to repair a canal. Adam believes the U.S. needs to reform student loan debt and expand access to national service programs for more people from diverse backgrounds.Interview Accession
