Interview Summary
Helen Henegar starts off by telling a story about her grandfather escaping the slave trade at age 12 and how he worked on the railroad near Etowah, Tennessee. She discusses life growing up in Etowah. She talks about living on the family farm and walking to school as a little kid. She talks about specific people and places in the town and tasks like retrieving water from a spring.
