Interview Summary
Ernest "Ernie" Zaremba served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Tanzania from 1964-66. He was a surveyor building roads and culverts in the countryside near Mwanza as part of the Farm to Market program. During the rainy season he started a youth boxing league. He recounts stories of his love of outdoors, living in the bush and his friendships with his Tanzanian driver and trainees. He tells stories about climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and being flown to Uganda to have his appendix removed. He talks about returning to Tanzania with his wife and the on-going connections among RPCVs and Tanzanians he has facilitated through the Peace Corps Family Album he started and 8 trips to Tanzania. From 2004-2017 he recorded stories of over 1000 RPCVs who served in 100 different countries for the Album. These are available on YouTube. He concludes talking about the importance of cross-cultural connection, social networks and the value of life stories.Interview Accession
