Interview Summary

Evonne Weatherby (Carter) grew up in California, where she learned how to live off the land by camping and fishing. She was a fan of John F. Kennedy and wanted to do something for the world so she decided to join the Peace Corps. Weatherby served in three countries: Paraguay, Malawi, and Ukraine. For Paraguay, she trained in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and then worked in health education in Choré in the Eje Norte District for six months. She eventually moved to Quiíndy in Paraguay because of security issues. In Malawi, Weatherby was a teacher trainer of English and life skills with six villages. In Ukraine, Weatherby worked in TEFL at the university in Kremenchuk. She also taught modern methods of teaching.
