Interview Summary
Social worker Mike Brown interviews Hospice patient Roy Johnson, Jr. as he discusses his childhood, explaining his family lived in poverty and he left school after the 8th grade. He spent much of his teenage years working on tobacco farms until enlisting in the army during the Korean War. He did his basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky and talks about his time at an army base in Japan. He was discharged in 1954 and spent 9 months in the hospital at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, afterwards working as a clerk in the army.Interview Accession
