Interview Summary

James P. Hendrick, a classmate of John Sherman Cooper's at Yale, begins the interview by discussing friends of Cooper in their class. Hendrick then lists Cooper's roommates at Yale. Hendrick contrasts Cooper's outgoing nature to classmate and fellow Senator Stuart Symington and his rather reserved demeanor. Hendrick details his career in the federal government and his contact with Cooper since graduating from Yale in 1923. Hendrick briefly discusses Cooper's second wife. The interviewee evaluates how being an alumni of Yale assisted Cooper in his political career and personal life. Hendrick talks of Dean Acheson and the reasons for his appointment of Cooper as a delegate to the UN. To conclude the interview, Hendrick shares some stories that Cooper frequently told.
