Interview Summary
William "Barney" McCosky was a Major League outfielder, playing for the Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Athletics (A's), Cincinnati Reds, and Cleveland Indians. In this interview, he discusses hitting against pitcher Bob Feller, his (McCosky's) military service during World War II, being traded to the Philadelphia Athletics, the 1946 Tigers team, the Mexican League, the player pension plan, players for the A's, work during the off season, Connie Mack, injuries that he (McCosky) sustained during games, and some of the more competitive pitchers he knew. Other topics include Major League African American baseball players, playing as an outfielder, changes in baseball equipment since McCosky was a player, artificial turf, the standardization of baseball parks, player salaries and endorsements, travel during his baseball career, the use of designated hitters, and the reserve clause.Interview Accession
