Interview Summary
Catherine Anadu served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ukraine in 2017 through 2019, in the Community Economic Development Program. Catherine applied to Peace Corps mid-career, having worked as a Petroleum Engineer for about 20 years. Prior to applying she had volunteered for many organizations throughout her career. Catherine is Black, of Nigerian ancestry. She was selected for Ukraine, and trained in Chernihiv. Housing during training was with a host family. Training included intensive Ukrainian language instruction. Her posting was in the city of Vinnytsia. She lived with a “host family” consisting of a single female teacher. She worked with a Community Foundation, helped establish an Association of Community Foundations, and served on a Mayor’s Task Force. The interview discusses training, living, and working in Ukraine; Ukrainians’ attitudes toward the U.S.; and being a Black American in Ukraine. She also talks about involvement with RPCV groups and NPCA after completing service.Interview Accession
