Interview Summary
Burgess gives a detailed account of growing up in a boarding house for railroad workers and what it was like for her mother to take on the responsibilities of the boarding house by herself. She also talks about her marriage with Oliver Greene Burgess and his time spent in the military. Additionally, she describes some of the people she remembers from Etowah, Tennessee and gives a brief community history in terms of first impression stories told by members of the community, the Oregon Trail, and the tornado of 1974 that wreaked havoc on Etowah. Burgess also discusses the deaths of her parents, sisters, and her uncle, Walter Edwards, as well as the illnesses that both she and her husband have been fighting through the years.Interview Accession
