Interview Summary
Keith D. Clark interviews Annette Bowles Lucas, a Lexingtonian and senior citizen. She talks about her childhood growing up in Tallapoosa, Georgia, before moving to Lexington, Kentucky at the age of 14. She discusses her marriage and family life, as well as her various jobs and church activities. She gives her opinions on various social movements and moments in history, like the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Vietnam War, and racial demonstrations that occurred in Lexington during the 1960s. She also discusses issues of the black community of the present (1990s) with Clark. They discuss domestic violence, mass incarceration, single mother families, the role of black women in the community, and the future of black children in the United States.Interview Accession
