Project: Family Farms of Kentucky: Farm and Farmstead Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Shouse, a farmer living in Kentucky, begins the interview by giving an overview of her childhood in rural Illinois. Her siblings, parents, and grandparents are the primary topics of discussion. Dynamics of her childhood farm are also examined in detail. Shouse's educational path is described, along with her grandfather's fondness for home remedies. Shouse then chronicles her life after high school, including a move to Cincinnati, where she subsequently met her husband. Then, Shouse gives a comparison of Cane Creek when she first moved there to the present. The daily operations of Shouse's Cane Creek farm are investigated.
