Interview with Andrew Snow, December 2, 2022

Project: Peace Corps: The Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Oral History Project

Interview Summary

Andrew Snow served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Cameroon from 1975 to 1978. He was a French major who served in the Education Sector. His parents enjoyed international travel and spend sabbaticals abroad so they were not opposed to him serving in the Peace Corps. He taught at a secondary school where most of the students were in 7-10th grades. Andrew taught in the French speaking part of Cameroon where the principal appreciated his commitment to the assignment. He thought that the students benefited from learning English from a native speaker. Andrew’s village got electricity a few months after he arrived. His house did not have running water, but it did have a toilet which was flushed with water from a bucket. In his second year another Volunteer arrived and shared the house. Andrew married another Volunteer after close of service and they lived overseas for many years.
