Interview Summary

Ronald D. Ray, born in Hazard, Kentucky, served in the United States Marine Corps having been deployed in the Dominican Republic, Norway, and Panama. He was sent to special operations school at the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School and eventually sent to Vietnam in 1967 as an advisor. He was wounded and received a Purple Heart during Operation Coronado II in 1967. He also participated in the Battle of Hue during the Tet Offensive in 1968. After his military service in Vietnam Ray worked as a Marine recruiter and eventually retiring from the Marines to attend Law School at the University of Louisville. Following law school he was active in the presidential campaigns of Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush and also joined the Marine Corps Reserve.
