Interview Summary
In this interview, Gary Patton describes growing up gay in rural eastern Kentucky, why he felt he needed to leave, and why he now feels comfortable going back. He discusses discovering homosexuality and his gay identity in Appalachia. He talks about coming out to his family and becoming more social and forming more connections after coming out and after finishing medical school. He talks about what it is like to be openly gay in Pikeville, Kentucky and why people fear coming out.Interview Accession
