Interview Summary
Edwin Elliott began his service as part of the 192nd Tank Battalion, Company D, but later transferred to a quartermaster company. He attended officer candidate school in Fort Knox (Kentucky), and was in the U.S. when he learned that members of his former unit had been captured in Bataan. Elliott was sent to Europe, where he was involved in the invasion of Normandy. He discusses his voyage across the Atlantic, an attack by a German U-boat, the landing at Utah Beach, the bombing of Saint-Lo, and his duties supplying gas to the troops. Elliott also served with the First Cavalry Division in the Korean War, and he compares and contrasts his experiences in Korea and Europe.Interview Accession
