Interview Summary

E. Bruce Heilman was a buck sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. Heilman was shipped out from San Diego on the U.S.S. Loraine to Okinawa and became an operator of IFF. Heilman re-enlisted while stationed in Japan and was discharged in 1947. Heilman attended Campbellsville Junior College in Kentucky and Vanderbilt University. Helman's career included administrative positions at Kentucky Wesleyan College, Georgetown College, Peabody College, and Kentucky Southern College, as well as serving as President for Meredith College and the University of Richmond. Heilman currently serves as the national spokesman for the The Greatest Generations Foundation.
