Project: University of Kentucky Oral History Project
Interview SummaryChristine Cetrulo, former assistant director of The Writing Program at the University of Kentucky, begins this interview describing the qualifications necessary for success in her field. She also discusses how other faculty members, as well as students, view and value her work. Cetrulo explains what parts of her job she really likes and what parts she thinks are difficult. Then she talks about the importance of writing for everyone at the university and she believes that the greatest achievement at the University of Kentucky has been the degree of seriousness UK has committed toward writing skills. Cetrulo next addresses the issue of budget and salary cuts, and she hopes that it will not force valued faculty members to seek employment elsewhere. She also describes what improvements she thinks should be made to the writing program, including new equipment and more space. Cetrulo describes the organizational structure of the writing program and explains that there is usually minimal conflict. The interview concludes with Cetrulo describing her personal habits and how her work affects her family life.
