Brooks reflects upon his friendship with former colleague at both Yale and Louisiana State Universities, Robert Penn Warren. The course of their acquaintance is given in chronological order. Their tenures at LSU are emphasized, including the establishment of the Southern Review (a literary quarterly). Warren and Brooks' collaborations on several textbooks are mentioned as well.
