Interview Summary
Dr. Thomas F. Whayne, Sr. talks about why he transferred from Western Kentucky State Normal School to the University of Kentucky in 1923. He talks about being a pre-med student at UK, and gives his first impressions of campus life and his classmates. He discusses some of the faculty at UK that made lasting impressions on him, along with university president Frank McVey.He talks about social life on campus, including his membership in the Alpha Gamma Epsilon fraternity. He talks about the atmosphere at UK during the Roaring Twenties. Whayne gives his opinions on the increasing emphasis placed on athletics at all universities including UK. He discusses the quality of education he received at the University of Kentucky and discusses whether it adequately prepared him for medical school.
