Interview Summary
Alice Dreifuss Goldstein recounts her family's escape from Nazi Germany in 1939, following Kristallnacht in 1938. Many of her male family members were imprisoned at Dachau after Kristallnacht. Once her father was released, Dreifuss Goldstein and her parents booked passage on the USS Harding for New York, where they were accepted as refugees. Dreifuss Goldstein recounts adjusting to American life, a new Jewish community, and her parents' Americanization as they settled down in New England amidst World War II and the Holocaust.Interview Accession
