Interview Summary

A graduate of Dunbar High and Xavier University, the manager of the Equal Opportunity Office at IBM recalls his career at IBM and the corporation hiring policies from the 1960s to 1978. Brown reminisces about growing up in a housing project and the influence of Coach Norman Passmore on his life. Brown began working for IBM in 1963 and remembers the effects of Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act on industry hiring practices. He comments upon early discrimination at IBM and the attitudes of the first African American employees.
