Interview Summary
Charles F. Riebe was the first Center Director of the Great Onyx Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center (GOJCCC) from March 15, 1965 to the end of August 1968. The center was activated on June 25, 1965 as part of Lyndon B. Johnson's "Great Society and War on Poverty." During his career with the National Park Service (NPS), in addition to his Job Corps assignment, he served in a number of various and innovative positions until he retired in 1984.This interview was conducted by Dr. Angela Sirna, Regional Historian, Southeast Regional Office, National Park Service (NPS) as part of an effort to document the experiences of the NPS and some of the people who worked in or were involved with the Job Corps program during the early years of the program,. 1965-1968.
