Project: Painkiller: An Oral History of the Opioid Epidemic

Interview Summary

Lisa Minton discusses her early career helping to set up a drug court system in Kentucky, to becoming the Executive Director of Chrysalis House. Lisa describes the trends observed in her 16 years of working in substance abuse treatment, including seeing a rise in women admitted for Oxycontin addiction, as well as methamphetamine. She also discusses how grant funding for substance abuse treatment centers has changed over the years, and talks about the many nuts and bolts that go into running a residential treatment program. Lisa also discusses the specialized approaches required for treating pregnant women and mothers, and how the state of Kentucky is seeking to expand treatment programs by offering more outpatient services.

At the time of this interview, Lisa Minton was the Executive Director of Chrysalis House, a residential treatment center for pregnant and parenting women in Lexington, Kentucky.
