Interview Summary

Howard discusses Benham, Kentucky and her personal history in the town as a city clerk and as mayor. She describes efforts to revitalize the town's infrastructure and to help raise funds for various projects. She discusses the Benham Garden Club and their work with running the city's used clothing store and other various projects to help the town. Howard discusses the culture of Southeastern Kentucky and coal mining and describes the effects of mining on the populations and the culture. She discusses different problems she sees in the area and goes into detail about recent developments with wastewater plants in the area and a state effort to consolidate three cities into one system. She also shares her thoughts on PRIDE and its impact on the area.
