Interview Summary
Martha Smith graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Education in 1963 and continued her education to earn a masters degree. In this interview Smith discusses moving to Lexington with her family and their impressions of the state. Smith was older than the average college student when she enrolled at UK and she talks about attending the university while raising her children and also working in a preschool.Smith talks about the University of Kentucky College of Education. She describes some of her favorite professors and discusses whether the school prepared her for her career.
Smith talks about the atmosphere on the UK campus during the early 1960s, including students' attitudes about integration, politics, and the role of women. She discusses the role of athletics on campus. Smith talks about how her college experiences changed her life, and talks about her continued contact with the UK Alumni Association.
