Interview Summary
Herby Smith discusses his family's roots in Appalachia, his education and boyhood in Whitesburg, and the earliest years at Appalshop, including his simultaneous efforts to earn a degree at Vanderbilt University while releasing his first films, "In Ya Blood" and "Judge Wooten and Coon-On-A-Log." Throughout the interview, Smith explains the politics and potential of Appalshop as well as its influences on him and his fellow Appalshoppers.Interview Accession
