Interview Summary
Edwin C. Strohecker, PhD., was a veteran of World War II and later held positions at several libraries, including Dean of Libraries at Murray State University. In this interview he discusses his childhood in Allentown, Pennsylvania, his experiences in World War II, and his career in libraries.Strohecker talks about the training he received in the Army. He discusses the various places he traveled in Europe during World War II while working for SHAEF (Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force). He talks about his duties during WWII, mainly dealing with information management.
Strohecker talks about his return from the war and his decision to continue his college education. He talks about earning his bachelor's degree, two master's degrees, writing his dissertation, and earning his doctorate in library science. He talks about his career and the various libraries he worked at over the years, including Murray State University, New Orleans University, and Spalding University, among others. He talks about the positions he held at the libraries and talks about some of his duties as Dean of Libraries. He discusses professional organizations within the library field.
