Interview Summary
Forrest C. Pogue, an oral historian and Army historian during World War II, discusses his personal memories about and experiences with former Kentucky Governor and U.S. Senator Albert B. "Happy" Chandler. He discusses Chandler's political career, including his time as a senator in the Kentucky Senate, and the various decisions Chandler made while in office. He describes his personal beliefs about Chandler and what motivated the politician to do such things as open the Chandler Medical Center and desegregate Kentucky public schools.
