Project SummaryWRFL was established in 1988 at the University of Kentucky as a free, alternative radio station. The station airs 24/7. Those interviewed for this project talk about their memories of the early days and their roles at the radio station, and their membership in a number of bands. The employees at the radio station are volunteers, most college students, and in the past some were teens in high school who worked at the radio station as part of the high school intern program. There are also interviews with University of Kentucky professors who have been involved with WRFL, and who taught some of the students who established and worked at WRFL. The professors also encouraged students in the classroom to listen to the radio station. Within this project is a history of college radio by one of the professors, who is married to the man who helped establish the first FCC sanctioned college radio.
