Project: Amish Quilts: Crafting an American Icon Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Smucker interviewed George and Susan Delagrange about their experiences buying antique Amish quilts from Amish communities in Holmes and Wayne Counties in Ohio. After the became acquainted with the market, in the early 1980s they started a business called Amish Design, designing new quilts based on antique Amish quilts, and hiring Amish quilt makers to do the work. They sold the quilts to interior designers and architects, as well as to corporate collectors.Interview Accession
