Interview with Victor H. Strandberg, March 23, 1978
Project: Robert Penn Warren Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Strandberg reflects upon his friendship with Robert Penn Warren, who he met through mutual professorial friends. First, Strandberg recalls when he discovered Warren's literature while writing his graduate school dissertation on the author. Strandberg's books of criticism he wrote on Warren are also analyzed, as well as Warren's reaction to them. Warren's stylistic evolution is examined, including Strandberg's own categorization of the writing into two distinct periods. Other topics of discussion include Warren's central poetic themes, the novel "Brother to Dragons," and Strandberg's personal anecdotes of the author.Interview Accession
