Interview Summary
Porter G. "PG" Peeples was a student at the University of Kentucky during its early days of desegregation. In this interview, he discusses his childhood and education in Lynch, Kentucky. He discusses the African American community in Lynch. He talks about his experiences in New York City during summers in high school. Peeples talks about his consistent goal to go to college and his transition from the local community college to the University of Kentucky and his experiences as an African American man during the school's integration period. He talks about his experiences with racism and discrimination, his social life on campus, and his participation in protests and demonstrations on campus. After graduating from UK, he was offered a job in Lexington's new Urban League as the head of the education programming. He talks about his fifty-plus year career with the Urban League, including his advocacy for things like affordable housing, education, and vulnerable populations.Interview Accession
