Project: Personal Responsibility in a Desirable Environment Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Cook discusses her early life and the path that led her to living in Johnson County, Kentucky. She describes getting in touch with the conservation district in Johnson County about her newly purchased farm and, after talking with a representative of the conservation district, receiving a job offer to be the environmental educator for Johnson County's conservation district. Cook describes her duties as environmental educator and discusses the steps she took to learn how to do her job. She describes the various activities she facilitates to help with environmental education and she discusses how she partners with Personal Responsibility in a Desirable Environment (PRIDE) to achieve those goals.Cook discusses the importance of outdoor classrooms and describes her own outdoor classroom, where students from all over Johnson County can come to learn. She also details the efforts she and PRIDE have made in regard to cleanups and involving young people in cleaning up the environment. Cook discusses what she thinks future efforts for PRIDE should look like and she describes the outcomes of the work she does every day with students in Johnson County.
