Interview Summary

Nancy Ray was born in 1941 and grew up St. Matthews, Jefferson County, Kentucky. She graduated from Eastern High School in 1959 and enrolled at the University of Chicago in the fall of that year. She transferred to the University of Louisville after her sophomore year and graduated with a BA in Social Studies in 1963. She enrolled in Graduate School at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned a Master’s degree in History in 1965 and a post-masters certification in counseling psychology in 1966.. She gained employment at the University of Kentucky later in 1966 and worked as an Administrative Associate in the Dean of Women's Office, before being promoted to Assistant Dean of Students in the Dean of Student's Office that was led by Jack Hall when the Dean of Women's Office was closed in 1967. Ms. Ray later studied at the Harvard Business School's Institute for Educational Management in 1974, and earned a JD from the U.K. Law School in 1979. In this interview she discusses her experiences on campus from 1966 through the winter of 1968.
