Interview with Crystal Wilkinson, August 3, 2001
Project: Kentucky Writers Oral History Project
Interview Summary
Wilkinson explains that there are difficulties knowing her background for two reasons: the African Americans were not able to pass along their family name, and the American Indian women were known as "Indian squaw" without any reference to the full name or the family name. Wilkinson discusses her family's connection with the ancestors of Governor Wilkinson. Wilkinson describes being raised by her grandparents. Her grandfather seemed able to do anything. Her grandmother was small and took care of Wilkinson like a mother. Wilkinson got to know her mother more during college.Interview Accession
