Interview Summary
Mr. McCann attended Constitution Elementary and graduated from Dunbar High School and Tuskegee Institute. He discusses Kentucky State University, race relations and prejudice at the University of Kentucky in 1962-1963, and student unrest at the University of Wisconsin. He recalls the civil rights movement in Lexington including the role of African American ministers, sit-ins and other demonstrations, the effects of school integration upon the African American community, and the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE). Mr. McCann comments upon the prevailing racism in Lexington and his dislike for the city, African American national and international leaders, the Peace Corps, Nigeria, and African languages.Interview Accession
