Interview Summary
This interview with Floyd County (Ky.) native Lloyd Gene Stratton begins with a discussion of his childhood. He describes his childhood home and talks about what he and his friends did for recreation. He also talks about how his family obtained water from a well and used an outhouse. Next, Stratton talks about reusing material to make other useful items, such as making old clothes into quilts. He then talks in greater detail about what he did for recreation and recalls how his family celebrated holidays such as Christmas and the Fourth of July.Stratton also talks about the various occupations he has had over the years. He talks about his grandparents and his family's heritage, and recalls his brother, who passed away before the advent of antibiotics. Finally, Stratton returns to the subject of growing up in Eastern Kentucky to talk about the transportation options available during his youth and talking about his education. Stratton ends the interview by talking about fishing in nearby creeks and rivers.
