Interview Summary
Ronald Meredith, a former intern in Senator Cooper's Washington D.C. office, recalls his first impressions of Cooper and his childhood memories of Kentucky politics. Meredith analyzes Cooper's speaking style and decision-making process. Meredith remembers meeting Jackie Kennedy at a christening that he attended with Cooper in D.C. Meredith also reflects upon how he was hired as an intern at Cooper's office. Meredith describes his job responsibilities as an intern. The interviewee articulates his role in Cooper's 1966 Senatorial campaign. Meredith details Cooper's charismatic personality and his ability to relate to people of all backgrounds. Meredith provides his opinion on what influenced Cooper's outstanding character. Meredith talks of Cooper's personality. Meredith gives his opinions of Cooper and why he did not want to run for a higher office than the Senate. The interviewee assesses Cooper's interactions with the media and high standards of etiquette. Meredith's political career in Kentucky is explored. Cooper's role in assisting Meredith in establishing his political career is considered. Meredith details the interactions between Cooper and the Nunn brothers. Meredith explains how Cooper helped him finish law school in Washington D.C. while dealing with a family emergency in Kentucky. Cooper's good character is examined. Cooper's role as U.S. Ambassador to India is evaluated.
