Interview Summary
In this interview, Sandy Hatfield, stallion manager at Three Chimneys Farm, discusses her childhood working with quarter horses in Oklahoma and coming to Kentucky to go to school at Murray State University with its new equine program. She traces her career in the Thoroughbred industry in Central Kentucky from 1981 to around 2000 (prior to working for Three Chimneys), discusses her mentors, both male and female, and describes how she became a stallion manager. Hatfield also discusses her work at Calumet Farm during its final years and the efforts to save Alydar, the thoroughbred racehorse.Interview Accession
