Interview Summary
John T. McGarvey graduated from Henry Clay High School in Lexington, KY. in 1965 and enrolled at the University of Kentucky that fall. He transferred to the University of Missouri for his sophomore year but returned to U.K. for his junior and senior years and graduated in 1970, and then earned his law degree at U.K. in 1973, all while working as a reporter and anchor for WKYT-TV. In this interview he discusses campus attitudes toward rape, sexual assault, homosexuality, the Civil Rights Movement, television coverage of the Vietnam War, the 1968 Tet Offensive, Lyndon Johnson's decision not to run for re-election, and the Black Student Union.Interview Accession
