Interview Summary

Guy Shearer talks about working for Clements' campaign in the 1947 gubernatorial election. Shearer talks about being appointed Chairman of the Kentucky Alcohol Beverage Control Board by Clements. He talks about the purpose of the Board, and his and Clements' views on the enforcement of alcohol licenses, as well as his opinion on state-owned liquor stores. Shearer talks about being part of Governor Clements' cabinet and the meetings they held. He talks about some of the issues that were discussed, including the amendment to the Day Law in 1948. He discusses Lieutenant Governor Lawrence Wetherby's role in Governor Clements' administration. He discusses the 1948 and 1950 Senatorial campaigns, Happy Chandler's role in the 1955 and 1956 elections, and Clements' political philosophy and accomplishments.
