Interview Summary
Sue Feamster was the University of Kentucky's Women's Varsity Athletics founder, Athletic Director for Women's Sports, and the first head coach of the UK women's basketball team. In this interview, Feamster discusses UK Women's Athletics during the period between 1966-1976. She discusses the UK women's basketball team each season from 1970-1976, touching on specific players and their skills, the budget for the women's team compared to the men's, and the team's records and main opponents each year. She discusses the transition from the Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (CIAW) to the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW). Feamster discusses her role in naming the UK women's basketball team the Lady Kats. She re-tells a story told in her previous interview about her idea that the women's basketball team could take over the timeslot in Memorial Coliseum before the men's varsity basketball games.
